A long-established Cupar business, whose operations were transferred earlier this year to Dundee, has collapsed, reportedly owing big debts.

Houstons of Cupar, based latterly at Cupar Muir, was taken over by Twickler Industries Limited.

Twickler’s operations include the PresssureFab Group, one of the largest steel fabrication concerns in Tayside.

A spokesperson for Edinburgh Chartered Accountants Johnston Carmichael said Matt Henderson had been appointed provisional liquidator of Houston’s.

“Mr Henderson has met director, Hermann Twickler, and had discussions. He will co-operate in any investigations which are ongoing.”

When Houstons moved to Dundee, Mr Twickler gave an assurance that the Houston’s name would be retained and was a brand in its own right.

Houstons, founded in 1927, operated for many years in Station Road, Cupar, before discount supermarket Lidl took over a large part of the site. Houstons was previously owned by Andy Curran.
