50 year link still strong

Bavarian Beer Festival

Bavarian Beer Festival

A FOUR-DAY beer and music festival held to celebrate the 50 year link between Kirkcaldy and its twin town of Ingolstadt has been declared “a resounding success”.

Old acquaintances were renewed and new ones made as around 60 visitors from the Bavarian city joined hundreds of locals for a Festival of Friendship to mark the anniversary.

Bavarian brass band Die Mailing Blaskapelle got the crowds going each day, joined by pipe bands from Kirkcaldy and Buckhaven, as well as the Dysart Colliery Silver Band, folk and ceilidh bands, and there was highland dancing, youth bands and local rock bands to cater for all tastes.

The German visitors, including deputy provost Sepp Misslbeck, enjoyed a packed programme while in the Lang Toun, with visits to the East Neuk and St Andrews and a trip to the Scottish Parliament arranged by Kirkcaldy MSP David Torrance.

The whole programme was arranged through the Kirkcaldy Ingolstadt Association, helped by other organisations which have been involved in the twinning over the years, including Kirkcaldy YMCA and Fife Council.

Robert Main, chairman of the association, said: “It was thoroughly enjoyed by the vast crowds all weekend and people are asking when the next one will be.”
