A Bavarian bonanza!

langtonians are being given an open invitation to a Festival of Friendship to mark the 50th anniversary of Kirkcaldy being twinned with the German town of Ingolstadt.

The official welcome ceremony for the event will be held in the Traditional Bavarian Beer and Music Festival Marquee in Kirkcaldy’s Town Square on Thursday, August 30 from 7.30 p.m. – and everyone’s invited to the party!

The 50th anniversary celebrations aim to recognise the bond of friendship which has been formed between the two towns over the half century the former Kirkcaldy Burgh Council and the City of Ingolstadt got together.

The official welcome will allow visitors a taste of the imported Bavarian beer supplied by Herrn Brau, a local brewery within Ingolstadt, accompanied by an evening of entertainment which will include 41 musicians from Ingolstadt including Mailing Brass Band, Joey Finger Group and Boomtown music group. The packed programme will be supplemented by traditional Scottish music.

Admission to the festival is free and the marquee is child friendly with rides and German foodstalls available around the Town Square.

The festival will run from Thursday, August 30 to Sunday, September 2.

As well as the Festival of Friendship, local musicians and groups will take part in the anniversary Scottish Bavarian Week, a youth music exchange programme which will see the young people perform in various venues in Ingolstadt.

Robert Main, chairman of the Kirkcaldy Ingolstadt Association, said: “Being twinned with Ingolstadt has brought a great many benefits to the local community both young and old, but perhaps the most important has been the great friendships established over the years.

“We want to ensure we continue to develop these friendships and build new relationships through our twinning links in this anniversary year and in the future.”
