A closer look at plan site
Site at Glen Albyn Drive / GlenIsla Drive where it is proposed to build 30 new affordable homes.
COUNCILLORS will visit a site in north Kirkcaldy where there are plans to build 30 houses and community gardens.
The move came at Wednesday’s meeting of Kirkcaldy Area Committee after members discussed proposals for land at Glen Albyn Drive.
Planning permission in principle was sought by Kingdom Housing Association to build 30 affordable houses, community woodland and public open space.
The application included plots for up to 30 community gardens along with a wildflower meadow and a children’s play area. There are also plans to upgrade the informal footpath nework and create a pond.
Space
In a report which went before the committee, Fife Council planners noted the application was not ‘significantly contrary’ to the development plan, although they did acknowledge there would be a loss of space.
There were also 20 letters of objection raising concerns about effects on wildlife, pond safety, drainage and sewage issues, road safety, loss of open space, sunlight, privacy and footpath flooding.
At the meeting, Councillor David Ross moved the application be refused.
Issues
He said: “There are issues around the loss of open space, effect on wildlife, road safety on the roundabout. There are also problems with drainage and sewage.”
Councillor Susan Leslie seconded his motion and also highlighted worries about the Wester Bogie roundabout at Chapel.
However, both councillors opted to withdraw the refusal after Councillor Carol Lindsay proposed the committee members visit the site which the committee members unanimously agreed to.
