Jason McEwan now after charity haircut

TWO caring Glenrothes youngsters have cut off their hair to help sick children.

Jason McEwan (15), a fifth year pupil at Auchmuty High School has raised £650, by having his long hair shaved off and sent to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which makes real hair wigs for children with cancer and other illnesses.

And seven year-old Amy Ewens of the town’s Elgin Drive had her bottom-length hair cut into a bob and has sent the hair to the same charity after watching her close friend Connor Laing lose his hair through leukaemia treatment.

Jason, from Pitteuchar, decided to have his hair cut after growing it since first year at school.

His mum June Myles, explained: “He told me that he wanted to have his hair cut, but didn’t just want it to go to waste, so we went on the internet and looked at what we could do and found the Little Princess Trust.

“He then decided to get sponsored from family and friends to have his head shaved. I am very proud of what he has done.”

Jason went under the clippers last weekend in the Kingdom Centre’s Unicorn Way outside Aitken’s Hair Salon where owner, Tracy Aitken volunteered to do the shave.

“People stopped and gave Jason money when they heard what it was in aid of,” added June.

His hair will be posted on to the charity to make a wig from, and anyone who would like to help boost Jason’s fundraising total can do so through his Just Giving page online at www.justgiving.com/JasonMcEwan.

Amy’s mum Marie Rennie said she was almost in tears when, after watching a television show about the charity making the wigs, her daughter said she wanted to send her hair to the charity to make a wig for a sick child.

“It was such a grown-up thing for such a young child to do. I was very proud of her,” she explained.

Amy, a pupil at Southwood Primary School had her hair cut by Debbie at the Janet Anderson salon a few weeks ago.
