A new parents group aimed specifically at dads and their young children has started up in Buckhaven.
Dad’s Rock held its first session last month and is already proving a hit with local fathers and their children.
As well as the usual games and arts and crafts, the dads and children, from babies to children under five, are encouraged to ‘rock out’ with musical instruments and sing together.
Dad’s Rock was the brainchild of two Edinburgh fathers, Thomas Lynch and David Marshall, who started the group in the Capital in 2012.
Last year, Fife Gingerbread held a pilot in Dunfermline that proved so successful, it paved the way for a group right here in Levenmouth.
Organiser Katherine Miller said: “Dad’s Rock has come to Buckhaven to offer a place where dads and their children can come and play and have fun together. There is no agenda to this group except to have fun meet other dads with their children – a fun, positive and rocking place to be.”
At the weekly 90 minute sessions, fathers and their children can play together with toys and musical instruments, as well as taking part in interactive group stories and a big singalong at the end of each session.
There is also an opportunity for fathers to come together with other dads and discuss topics and issues surrounding fatherhood which they may not have otherwise had the chance to do at mother-dominated playgroups.
The group meets at Buckhaven Community Centre every Thursday afternoon from 1.00 – 2.30 p.m.
