ST ANDREWS school pupils got to meet a very special guest during their recent visit to Holyrood in Edinburgh.

Canongate Primary youngsters Lynsey Brown, Anna Davidson, Cameron Sneddon and Brodie Miller presented their own canapes to the Duchess of Cornwall who took the time to chat to the children about how they put recipe together.

The visit came about after they decided to enter a ‘Cook for the Queen’ competition, with the pupils creating their dishes as a homework exercise over the Easter break.

Only four schools were chosen to attend the Holyrood event with Canongate being the only representatives from Fife.

During the trip they also got to sample the Royal kitchens where they prepared their canapes with chefs on hand to give them some help and support.

Headteacher Linda Birtwistle was delighted with the visit.

“They had a fantastic time and the Duchess spent 10 minutes with each school discussing their menus,” she said.

“There was also a military parade and the pupils got VIP positions to watch it then they were interviewed by newsround and that was broadcast last week.

“The children say the day was amazing and the next round will be to go to Buckingham Palace to cook for the Queen.

‘‘Even if we don’t get through it was a day they will never forget.”
