A Smart choice by students

A BUCKHAVEN man has been voted in as the new president of the of the Adam Smith College students’ association.

At 20-years-old Ryan Smart is the youngest person to be elected by the students at the college, which has campuses across Fife in Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes and Leven.

Ryan officially took up his post as president at the beginning of July after an election campaign which was held before the summer.

The ex-Buckhaven High School pupil has a wide range of experience gathered over recent years which will help him in his new role.

Speaking of his ambitions for his time in his role, Ryan said: “My main aim over the next year is to ensure that we reach more students than ever before whether they are studying in our main campuses or out in the outreach centres.

“I’d like to see more students getting involved both in college and representing students’ views across Scotland.

“With the ongoing cuts and issues re regionalisation there are many challenges ahead.

“I hope that I can add to the great learning experience our students gain at Adam Smith.”

Adam has ambitions of going on to further learning once his time at Adam Smith is finished and wants to eventually become a community worker.

It was while volunteering last year to help with various activities organised by the student’s association that he gained an insight into the work it carried out and he was keen to get involved further.

At the same time he completed an HNC in working with communities.

During his studies he acted as a class representative and was a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament.

Now employed as the new president, Ryan is keen to make his mark and improve on the work which has gone before.
