A wind of change

LESS than two dozen people turned out to a public consultation exhibition giving full details of a massive wind turbine proposed to be built just metres off the shore at Methil.
At 196m, the demonstration turbine will be more than twice the height of the old power station chimney and the exhibition, which included information about environmental studies and images of how the turbine would appear on the landscape, aimed to give all interested parties a chance to find out more about the proposal.
The event, organised by Arcus Renewable Energy Consulting Ltd on behalf of Scottish Enterprise, was held at Methil Docks Business Park, was attended by only 20 people, although there was apparently positive feedback.
A spokesperson from Scottish Enterprise said: “The recent exhibition attracted 20 visitors, which was in line with what we anticipated.
“We were encouraged that feedback suggested the majority thought that testing the prototype turbine at Fife Energy Park was a good idea.”
The project is now being considered by the various statutory consultees, such as Fife Council and Scottish Natural Heritage, before Marine Scotland decides if consent should be granted.
“We continue to welcome views from local people and representations to the application should be made by 24 September,” the spokesperson said.
