Live music, comedy, parades, a bake off and much more

Final preparations are underway for this year’s Aberdour Festival which kicks off in style with a musical celebration tomorrow night (Friday).

Organisers are looking forward to a fun-filled festival with activities and entertainment for all ages.

The event, which is now in its 31st year, is running from August 1-10 and is launching with a Great Grand Homecoming Hootenanny in the AVD Festival Marquee.

Roy Devon, chairman, said: “Scotland is buzzing this year with so many exciting events and anniversaries and Aberdour Festival has stepped up to the mark to put on a programme bigger and better than any village festival in Scotland and beyond!

“We have packed a Hootenanny, family party night, big name comedian, jazz, opera, theatre and the world’s best Bon Jovi Tribute band into our marquee over 10 days, which will be glorious whether this great weather holds or not!

“There’s so much to participate in – like the famous Donkey Brae Run and notorious Haughcross Bike Race, or for the more sedentary, the Pet Show and the Bake Off – but it’s also great fun to spectate, whilst partaking of a generously stocked bar and hot food served every night.”

The Hootenanny, from 9.00 p.m. is hosted by local musicians, The Coaltown Daisies, Lynzy Moutter and Vivienne Berne.

They are well-known for their dual harmonies and moving lyrics and are becoming regulars on the Scottish live music scene, performing at a range of various venues and festivals.

They will introduce guests including Second Stages, Sandra Macbeth, Rab Thomson and Kenny Martin. A bar and food will be available.

The crowning of this year’s king, Owen Braid and queen, Catriona Nicholson, along with their attendants takes place in the festival marquee at 10.30 a.m on Saturday.

This will be followed by the colourful festival parade which has a ‘bridge the gap’ theme to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World war, 50th anniversary of the Forth Road Bridge and to celebrate the Commonwealth Games.

The parade will make its way from the marquee at 11.00 a.m through the village before heading back to the marquee for the sports and gala day.

Other hot tickets are the comedy extravaganza on Sunday (August 3); jazz night on Monday (August 4); picnic at the festival on Tuesday (August 5) and the Bon Jovi Experience on Friday (August 8).

The line-up:

The comedy extravaganza is being hosted by comedian Gary Delaney, a regular on BBC’s ‘Mock the Week’.

He headlines the comedy show, in association with Mirth of Forth Comedy, in the marquee from 8.30 to 11.00 p.m. Support guests include Caimh McDonnell and two Fife acts Richard Pulsford and Diane Stewart.

The Fabulous Festival Jazz Night with the Copper Cats is being supported by Marty Waugh and his band in association with Fife Jazz Club.

It is being headlined by Scottish vocalist Alison Affleck with Colin Steele from the Copper Cats on trumpet, Danielle Price on tuba and Konrad Wiszniewski on tenor sax. Marty Waugh and his band will perform a swinging account of the American Songbook.

The picnic takes place in the marquee from 7.00 p.m. and to mark the 10th anniversary of Aberdour’s twinning with Corte Franca, people can sample a selection of Italian delights while the festival bar will have Italian beers and wines available. Entertainment will be provided by bass baritone Jonathan Veira.

The event is supported by Room With A View.

The Bon Jovi Experience plus guests is being held in association with Rock Ya Events.

It takes place in the marquee from 6.00p.m until late. They are promoted as the world’s finest tribute to Bon Jovi and the only one to have performed live with Jon Bon Jovi himself!

Guests include: alternative rock band Stuntman Mike, Kirkcaldy band Auxygen, Indie rock band Second Stages and Glasgow-based band Origin Sins.
