Advice on the ‘flu

‘AT risk’ people in the Glenrothes area are being urged to ensure that they are protected against influenza.

Scotland’s chief medical officer, Sir Harry Burns, has urged vulnerable patients to get a free jab from their family doctor.

Those who may be in the at risk groups include people who suffer from heart and lung conditions, asthma and diabetes.

‘Flu can lead to serious complications, including pneumonia and can badly affect otherwise very healthy people.

Sir Harry said ‘flu cases tended to rise when the weather turned colder, so now was an ideal time to get the injection.

He added: “‘Flu strikes suddenly and it’s important to be prepared.

“It only takes a few minutes to get the ‘flu jab, but this will protect you for 12 months.

“Take up the offer of the jab to make sure you are protected.”

Those who do contract the illness can also get help.

“Pharmacists will be able to offer advice on medicines that help to reduce temteratures and ease the symptoms,” added Sir Harry.
