THE first day at school can be hard for any child, but little Anna Duncan from Cupar was especially brave this week as she took her first steps into Castlehill Primary School following an exceptionally difficult six months.

Anna (4) lost her dad Derrick to a brain tumour in January, but since then has kept his memory alive by frequently talking about him.

Tuesday was emotional for her mum Lesley who said Derrick would have loved to have seen his ‘wee princess’ start school.

She said: “I’m so proud of Anna starting P1 after such a tough six months.

“She waved to her daddy at the cemetery on her walk to school and I’m sure he was looking down on her smiling and proud of his wee princess who’ll be five on Tuesday.”
