Anstruther RNLI crews quick to answer calls
Pupils from St Monans Nursery raised �135 for Anstruther RNLI
RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews from Anstruther experienced a busy few days last week.
First up on June 3, at 4.15pm, the Anstruther lifeboats were launched to an area around the May Isle following a report of two divers missing in the water.
The alarm had been raised by colleagues in a boat on the surface when the two sports divers, one a diving instructor, had failed to surface on their return time. The Anstruther lifeboats, under the command of coxswain Michael Bruce, made their way to the May Isle to assist a rescue helicopter in a search for the divers.
On the approach to the scene the rescue helicopter spotted the divers in the water some 1.5 miles from their dive boat and directed the lifeboats to them. The two divers were quickly recovered and found to be quite shaken by their ordeal, although uninjured.
On June 5, at 5.30pm, an almost identical call was received by HM Coastguard, Fifeness, reporting divers missing, on this occasion near to the Bass Rock. RNLI volunteer crews from Anstruther, Dunbar and North Berwick were tasked to the scene and HM Coastguard co-ordinated search operations from their base at Fifeness. A number of local pleasure craft also joined the search.
Fortunately, the two divers were spotted in the water by the crew of the North Berwick lifeboat and quickly recovered, uninjured, from the water.
