Apologies after Kirkcaldy police station left ‘shut’

A KIRKCALDY man has called Fife Police “a joke” as he twice tried to report a crime - but couldn’t get in to Kirkcaldy Police Station.

Hadyn Anderson (20) had been approached by a man on Monday afternoon who offered to sell him drugs and when he went to report the incident he found Kirkcaldy Police Station on St Brycedale Avenue was closed with no-one there to help.

He said: “A guy came up to me on Links Street and asked if I wanted to buy drugs. I was really angry that he was doing this in broad daylight so I went to the police station. The doors were locked so I pressed the intercom and found that it wasn’t working and there was no-one on reception. This was at around 2.10 p.m.

“Eventually a policeman came out and told me and the four other people who were also there to come back after three.”

Hadyn returned to the station just after 3.00 p.m. only to find it was the same situation as before. “A sergeant came out and shrugged his shoulders and told me and the others waiting there was nothing he could do and we should just phone them.

Disgraceful

“There was an elderly gentleman there trying to get in and this sergeant was really abrupt and rude to him. It was disgraceful”

“I know the police service is facing cutbacks but what’s the point of them if you can’t even report a crime?”

A spokesman for Fife Police said: “Due to unforseen circumstances we had to close our Kirkcaldy Enquiry Office for a short time on Monday. There is an out of hours intercom that public callers can use to speak to our Force Contact Centre. Unfortunately this was not working properly and is now being repaired.

“We very much apologise to anyone that was affected and if you still need to contact the police please contact 101 where we will do our best to help you. We would take this opportunity to apologise for anyone who was affected.”
