Areas of development have been identified for future wind farms
AREAS of Fife to the east of Leven and Kennoway and in the East Neuk have been identified for potential wind farm development.
The Fife Plan consultation – running until March 10 – includes a map which identifies possible areas where wind turbines would be most appropriate.
And Council leader Alex Rowley is keen for Fifers to have their say on the potential sites for development.
He said: “This review will be the key influence on where wind farms and turbines are recommended to be located in the future.
“New maps have been issued showing the areas where it is thought there is capacity for these structures - so it is important that local people have a look and have their say.
“When this exercise has been completed and finalised then the outcome will become part of the Local Plan. This is the point at which people can influence the outcome.”
The map identifies an area stretching from just north of the Wemyss villages to the edge of Kennoway and up to Markinch as one of ‘highest inherent capacity’, but this would be restricted as there are already wind farms in the area
An area between Anstruther, Fife Ness, Kingsbarns and Lochty has also been identified as one of ‘highest inherent capacity’.
Much of the rest of the east Fife area is zoned as having ‘limited capacity’ while built-up urban areas, such as Leven, Methil and Buckhaven have ‘no capacity’ for development.
As part of the Fife Plan consultation, public meetings are being held across Fife.
These will be drop-in events, with one being held in Kirkland High School on Thursday, February 14, between 3.00 p.m. and 7.30 p.m.
