Award hopes in full bloom
VOLUNTEERS behind the St Andrews in Bloom campaign are keeping their fingers crossed that their hard-working efforts - and also that of all sections of the local community - will have paid dividends for two major competitions.
Over recent days, the town has welcomed the judging panels for the Beautiful Fife and also the Beautiful Scotland contests.
Each of the two separate judging trips consisted of around three hours in the town, touring both the central and outlying areas and meeting representatives of local organisations who have been involved in environmental improvements and sustainable initiatives.
Participating in the coastal town category, St Andrews was also judged on its award-winning beaches and harbour areas.
Ray Pead, of St Andrews in Bloom, among those who assisted during the visits of the judges, told the Citizen:”With just a small pool of volunteers to call upon, and with the help of numerous businesses and individuals throughout the town, we have tried to show the judges not just how beautiful St Andrews can be, but also the many ongoing educational projects and collaborative efforts towards environmental protection.”
Ray also thanked local taxi firm, Club Cars, for generously providing transportation for the judges during their tours around St Andrews.
He added:”St Andrews has enjoyed previous success in these competitions and with such a lot of hard work and community support put in over the year, we are hopeful that this will be duly recognised.”
