Big Tent ‘green’ travel plan is just the ticket!

BIG Tent organisers are aiming to make it easier for people travelling to next month’s festival to be as ‘green’ as possible.
In order to minimise the festival’s impact on the local environment and offer an alternative to car use, in conjunction with SEStran organisers will run a frequent bus service to and from the site in the grounds of Falkland Estate.
Helen Lawrenson, director for Falkland Centre for Stewardship which organises Big Tent, said: “As a major Scottish environmental event, we are always looking at ways that we can offset the carbon footprint of the festival.
“This partnership is a cornerstone for us to continue to encourage greener more sustainable travel to and from this year’s festival.
“It is really important to us that we minimise the impact that Big Tent has on the local environment and residents and so a comprehensive and supported transport strategy for 2012 is one of our priorities.”
Making an increased effort this year to encourage and promote sustainable transport, the festival buses go some way in achieving this aim.
Festival buses will run at regular intervals from Friday, July 20 until midnight on Sunday July 22.

SEStran partnership director Alex Macaulay said: “Big Tent has gone from strength to strength and is a marvellous platform for promoting sustainable transport.
“We will be working hard with our Big Tent colleagues to ensure that everyone who takes part has the opportunity to get to and from the festival using a sustainable mode of travel.
“The Big Tent is setting the pace in trialling ways of minimising the environmental impact that transportation to large scale festivals have on local communities.”
Organisers are also looking at a range of ways to encourage festival goers to car share and utilise public transport to and from Big Tent.
Incentives may be offered to people who share car journeys or use alternative methods of transport to this year’s event, such as cycling.
