Biking bonanza on beach
A WORLD champion’s bike will be one of the star attractions when motorbike racing returns to the beach at Kirkcaldy.
Kirkcaldy and District Motor Club will celebrate its 90th anniversary by turning back time on Saturday, August 11, by hosting races on the sand.
The bike used by Jock Taylor when he won the 1980 World Sidecar Championship – two years before he was tragically killed in a racing accident in Finland – will be on display.

Club president Hugh Ward said: “Jock was a club member and we’ll be proud to have his bike here next week.
“There’s been a lot of interest following the story in the Press last week.
“It’s something different and hopefully it will attract a lot of people to the town.”
The event is billed as ‘A Demonstration of Motorcycle Racing’, with the 36-40 riders taking part by invitation.
Modern and classic motorbikes will race on the sand from around 2.30 p.m. once the tide is out. Riders can expect to take part in up to four races each.
Demonstrations
The whole event will run from noon until 6.00 p.m. and will feature demonstrations at the Esplanade’s basin car park at the west end by mini-moto riders from KartStart in Kirkcaldy and trial bikers from an Anstruther club. Motorcycle traders and clubs will have promotional stands.
Bill Harvey, manager of Kirkcaldy4All, who has been helping to promote and publicise the event, said: “It’s an opportunity to utilise the town’s strongest asset.
“If there’s an appetite for it and it’s a good event, we’ll try to make it an annual or biannual event.”
