ORGANISERS of the Cupar Flower Show are hoping members of the public will turn out in their droves to support this year’s event — just as they did for the centenary show 12 months ago.

Next weekend’s horticultural extravaganza in the Corn Exchange will be the 101st incarnation of the show and promises to be one of the best yet.

Bill Torrance, formerly of the BBC’s ‘The Beechgrove Garden’ and now well known as a local radio presenter, will perform the opening ceremony at 11am next Saturday, August 25.

Prizes will be presented the following day at 4pm by radio presenter Katy Roberts.

Wanda Wheelans, secretary of Cupar and District Floral and Horticultural Society, said: “We’ve chosen the Corn Exchange for the venue again this year and hopefully we’ll get a good turnout like we did for the 100th show.

“There will be all the usual displays, exhibitions and competition classes, as well as lots of crafts, home baking and trade stands.

“Visitors will also be able to take part in a plant surgery where they can present their queries to experts.

“We’d ask that they bring their plants to the event in a plastic bag.”

The show will be open to the public from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, August 25, and from 11am until 4.30pm on Sunday, August 26.
