ORGANISATIONS, groups and businesses in Kirkcaldy West have been celebrating after scooping prestigious awards in this year’s Beautiful Scotland competition.
Not only did the area scoop the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society Trophy but it also won a Silver Gilt medal certificate. Kirkcaldy4All achieved a Silver medal certificate.
The awards recognise the big community effort that went in to add colour in and around the High Street with hanging baskets, planters and well-tended flower beds enhancing the town centre’s appearance.
Kirkcaldy West Community Council, Kirkcaldy4All, Fife Council community services, residents associations in Linktown and Nicol Street, local businesses including Lady Helen nurseries and Falkland in Bloom have all been involved in the project.
David Henderson, chairman of Kirkcaldy West Community Council, said this year they were promoting the theme of ‘Take Pride in Kirkcaldy’ and thanks to everyone’s efforts, the 2012 displays are on a larger scale than previous years. ‘Beehive’ planters have been put in along the High Street and round Volunteers Green and extra hanging baskets have been put up at The Mercat.
The community council’s own ‘green’ efforts at the west end of the High Street included three planters and post mounted baskets on the traffic island. David also praised the ladies of Nicol Street who played a key role in this year’s Kirkcaldy West entry.
Delighted
Bill Harvey, manager of Kirkcaldy4All, said: “I am delighted we have done so well in our first year of entering these awards.
“A number of organisations came together on this and have to be commended. Well done to all concerned.”
David Torrance MSP said: “I would like to congratulate all the groups who participated in the Beautiful Scotland Awards.
“The standard of entries was extremely high and I am delighted the efforts of all of the community groups have been recognised in the presentation of trophies and certificates.
“These are not achieved without a lot of hard work and commitment on the part of those involved. Well done.”
Other local winners included Aberdour Village in Bloom which won the Coastal David Kerr Trophy and a Gold medal certificate and Kinghorn in Bloom which won a Silver medal certificate.
