A KIRKCALDY man has called for Fife Council to pay homage to one of the town’s most famous sons.

Pete Slessor is campaigning for a permanent tribute to commemorate darts legend Jocky Wilson who died in March.

Jocky won a whole host of titles in a glittering playing career including two world titles, and Mr Slessor, who was friends with the darts star, feels that it’s time for his home town to recognise his many achievements.

He said: “I feel strongly that there should be some sort of long lasting tribute paid to Jocky. He was something special.

High esteem

“When you have someone as famous as Eric Bristow coming all the way from London for his funeral, it shows you that he was held in high esteem.”

Mr Slessor has suggested that the new development at Chapel is an ideal chance to honour Jocky.

“They could name one of the new roads or maybe the roundabout after Jocky,” he said. “He brought a lot of happiness to the people of this town and he should not be forgotten.”

Danny Cepok, area services manager (Kirkcaldy), said: “Requests for a lasting tribute to a community figure can be submitted to the local area committee or the locality support team leader.

“A question could also be put to the local area committee, where councillors discuss issues that are important to the local community and decide how ideas or projects can be taken forward.”
