St ANDREWS’ new police station in Pipeland Road was formally opened this week by outgoing Chief Constable Norma Graham.

The new station has full disabled access, easy parking and improved facilities to allow the police to interact with the public.

The former station in North Street will now be sold but the police will maintain their town centre links with a drop-in point in the library.

Arrangements for the campus-based police officer with the university remain the same.

Speaking at the opening of the new station, Mrs Graham said the new facility was a perfect example of the facilities the police needed to get closer to the communities where they work.

“Everything we do here in Fife Constabulary has been about taking the police closer to the community and there isn’t a better example of that than this new station,” she explained.

“This is the lifeblood of policing in St Andrews. This is what the community officers can use to work with people in the community.

“We need to be closer to the people, the residents, that we are policing with.”

The chief constable paid tribute to everyone who helped with the move to the new station including Inspector Bruce Thomson, who is also due to leave the force shortly.

North east Fife Chief Inspector Jill Harper said: “Our new police station, which takes us closer to the heart of the St Andrews community, offers the best facilities to deliver 21st century policing.

“We all look forward to welcoming members of our local community into the new building and working closely with them.”
