WORRIED parents are being assured that safety will be paramount for children in Lower Methil.

That was the message issued by Levenmouth Childcare Centre after the Mail revealed methadone services will be offered from a new pharmacy next door.

The new Cannons Surgery at Ajax Way is due to open to the public on December 10.

Boots Pharmacy on Lower Methil’s High Street will also be sharing the £2m state of the art building.

It’s expected 56 people will regularly access the pharmacy for methadone prescriptions.

This sparked outrage from one local parent, who said: “Surely someone must have thought it would be inappropriate – to say the least – that young innocent children would be exposed to this?

“Every day, addicts are going to be beating a path right past the children’s playground for a fix.”

In a message to Mail readers, Duncan Simpson, service manager for Young People’s Services said: “As is our practice, we carried out a risk assessment for the childcare centre and, as a result, we’ve erected a new gate and we are planning to improve the lighting around the centre in the near future.

He added: “The centre is already covered by CCTV and has a secure door entry system.”
