Kennoway woman Charlene Begbie was in the pink after being named the winner of Stagecoach East Scotland’s Green Week competition.

During the week-long programme of events earlier this month, Stagecoach East Scotland encouraged employees and customers to drive their green agenda further forward with a number of activities.

Among the events held throughout the week was an online customer competition for people across the UK to win a year’s free travel on their local Stagecoach bus network.

Thousands of people entered via the Stagecoach website, with Charlene bagging the prize for East Scotland.

She travels five days a week on the local bus network and has won herself a 52-week East Scotland Megarider, worth £1877.

Charlene said of her win: “The ticket will be very useful, as I use the buses almost every day. Now I can get as far as Aberdeen for free!”

This was transport group Stagecoach’s sixth annual group-wide Green Week to celebrate its environmental achievements so far.

Other activities in the east of Scotland included customer and staff giveaways, the trial of electric vehicles for the support fleet and a community clean-up.

Elsewhere, customer giveaways included a reusable memo-board and a basil seed-pot which was aimed at school pupils in particular.

For staff, a recycled plastic snack box was the main giveaway.

Many companies also worked with schools in some areas on green-themed activities, including poster and bus livery design competitions.

The theme this year was Community Spirit and, on World Environment Day, many employees wore green-coloured clothing.

Our picture shows Charlene being presented with her prize by a local operations manager Lee Skinner at Leven bus station.
