‘EDIBLE Britain’ will be promoted at Cupar in Bloom’s 10th anniversary spring launch, in the Corn Exchange next Wednesday.

The popular event will feature a short presentation by Margaret Lear, of Bankfoot, whose talk, ‘Plants with Purpose’, will tie in with the Royal Horticultural Society Britain in Bloom theme, which Cupar is following, along with the ‘Year of Natural Scotland’ celebration.

Since 2003, Cupar in Bloom has won a prestigious award each year, including trophies, salvers, medals and various titles in British, Scottish and Fife competitions.

Many of its current team of about 20 members have been on board since the outset and have worked alongside other organisations in the town, including schools and clubs, to make Cupar a brighter and greener place.

Next week’s launch, which will showcase recent projects and ongoing activities, gets under way at 9.30 for 10am, with visitors able to browse a number of stands highlighting community involvement and environmental awareness.

All the schools in the town – Castlehill, St Columba’s, Kilmaron and Bell Baxter, along with Cupar ‘Y’ – will be making presentations.

Bloom group chairperson Mary Law this week urged locals to pop along to the event, any time between 9.30am and 12.30pm.

On display will be the impressive Wright Sustainability Award, which was presented to the town at last year’s Beautiful Scotland competition.

It recognised the work of the group in several areas, including the building of a large, wooden ‘bug and beasties hotel’ at Tarvit Pond. It also commended the pupils of Bell Baxter for their projects .

Sustainable planting is be carried out this year in East Road by the group and Cupar Rotary Club.

The group is also to assist residents of Bathgate Court with their planters.
