A consultation event to give people the chance to have their say on proposals for two off-shore test turbines in Methil takes place tomorrow (Thursday).
Forthwind, a subsidiary company of 2-B Energy Ltd. will hold a pre-application event at the Fife Renewables Innovation Centre in Methil between 10.00 a.m. - 8.00 p.m.
The proposed project consits of the installation of two 6MW offshore wind turbines and associated infrastructure approximately 1.5 km (0.9 miles) off shore, adjacent to Fife Energy Park.
A £26.5 million investment package was secured by Dutch company 2-B Energy Ltd. back in March.
Sitting further out than the Samsung Heavy Industries 7MW prototype turbine, these proposed turbines could stand at a maximum height of 109 meters above lowest tide, and 186m to blade tip.
If the consultation period is successful, Scott Harper of 2-B Energy Ltd. noted that the company hopes to have consent by summer 2015, with the turbines being installed by autumn 2016.
He added: “The development at Methil will be our first offshore demonstration and will follow full certification of the turbine in an offshore environment, demonstrating the significant cost reduction opportunity which exists with our technology.
“As well as validating our installation techniques and providing the opportunity to validate our helicopter access strategy, it will provide the long term test bed for our technology which will operate over a 20 year period.”
