A PUPIL from Kirkland High School has baked, basted and tasted his way to become Leven’s Rotary Young Chef.

In the annual competition’s final cook-off, held at Buckhaven High School, Darren Walton won the prize and a place in the regional final early next year.

Judges were Ann Millar, a consultant in hospitality, and Norman Bendex, a retired lecturer in catering at Kirkcaldy’s Adam Smith College.

A spokesman said it had been a closely fought contest but the judges had reached a unanimous decision.

Second place went to Sean Brown of Buckhaven High School and third was Emma Duncan, also of Buckhaven.

“Darren’s menu of fillet of free range Fife pork with honey roasted ham and Anster cheese and apple risotto, followed by coconut and lime cheesecake and raspberry sorbet, was highly commended,” said the spokesman.

Darren was presented with his prize by Rotary president Scott Dryburgh.
