Council staff ready for awards ceremony

STAFF across various departments at Fife Council have reached the finals of the APSE Service Awards 2012.

The awards are organised by the Association for Public Sector Excellence and the authority has been recognised in the fields of tackling fuel poverty, street cleansing, reducing street lighting energy consumption, recycling smoke alarms containing hazardous material and helping displaced apprentices secure work.

Chief executive Ronnie Hinds said: ”This is a great achievement for Fife Council.

“To have not just one but five areas of our work recognised in this way is very rewarding.

“It’s a very difficult time for local authorities given the current economic climate.

“We’re continuing to run services with less money and fewer staff so we really have to make sure we deliver services to customers as efficiently as possible, provide excellent customer service and make the service even better.

The winners will be announced on September 13.
