A NEWBURGH couple have reached an amazing marriage milestone!

William and Agnes Baxter celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary on June 5 and received a card from the Queen on the same day she marked her Diamond Jubilee.

The couple, who were brought up in Saline, have known each other since primary school.

When he left school Willie worked on the farms and Nan was a dairy maid.

The couple married in 1942 and then moved to north east Fife where Willie began working at a farm in Logie owned by the Arbuckle family, and Nan brought up their three children, Liz, Margaret and Alex.

Once farm work became mechanised, Willie took up a job at Newburgh’s linoleum works and the family moved to the town’s Robertson Crescent.

As well as their three children, Willie (94) and Nan (91) have six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

They were both keen gardeners and regulary entered the Newburgh flower show.

Nan was also excellent at crafts including knitting and crocheting, as well as baking.

Since 2008 they have lived at Tayside View Care Home, where they are the home’s only couple.

Many friends and family attended a special party held in the home to celebrate Willie and Nan’s 70 years together.

The event was also attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Fife, Margaret Dean, and former Newburgh councillor and family friend Andrew Arbuckle.
