IF you’d like to tread the boards then there’s a chance to step into the spotlight next weekend.

Cupar Youth Musical Theatre (CYMT) will be holding auditions for new members on Sunday, March 17, at 7pm in the YMCA Hall, Bonnygate.

CYMT has had a long established history of performing musical shows in Cupar’s Corn Exchange since 1989.

Members have not only taken part in shows like, The Wizard of Oz, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Dracula Spectacular, Disco Inferno, Bugsy Malone, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe but they also learn stage craft and musical theatre skills.

Last November they put on the much acclaimed Disney’s Beauty and the Beast which gave them – and their audiences – much pleasure.

Maurice the inventor and his daughter Belle got mixed up with a very strange collection of staff at the Castle belonging to the Beast, but they all lived happily ever after they became human again.

The theatre group is now looking forward to its next show.

It hasn’t been chosen yet, although there are lots of ideas, but in part, it depends on who wants to have a part in it, from the smallest chorus part to a starring role. Places are available for young people who are currently in P7 – S5.

Auditions are held as a group with no pressure being put on people to perform individually.

“It is very important that members can become part of the team working towards, hopefully, the greatest performance of their lives,” said a spokesman.

“So, if you like singing and acting, or would like to find out whether you do, then come along to the YMCA and give it a try. We welcome members from across NE Fife.

Those joining need to be available for rehearsals for the company’s annual production on Tuesday evenings during term time in Cupar. Nearer the time of the performance there are some additional Sunday afternoon rehearsals too.

Further information on the auditions or CYMT in general can be obtained from Pam Groves on 01334 653938 or Kathy McCall on 01334 655721.
