Cyclist dies after colliding with pedestrian in St Andrews

Police are appealing for witnesses following the tragic death of a cyclist who was involved in an accident in St Andrews yesterday (Friday).

The accident happened around 3.50pm in Bridge Street, and involved a 63-year-old woman cyclist and a pedestrian, who were involved in a collision.

The pair both fell on to the roadway near to the junction with Kinnessburn Road.

The cyclist suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. Tragically, she later passed away.

The pedestrian was not seriously injured and carried on his way prior to police arriving.

Road policing officers are asking anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.

Sergeant Iain Hutchison, who is leading the enquiry, said: “Police are still trying to establish the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident and we are eager to hear from members of the public who were in the area at the time of the collision.

“In particular we would like to speak with the male pedestrian involved in the collision. We would like to stress this is just to assist with our enquiry.

“We are also keen to trace an elderly couple who were walking down Bridge Street at the time of the accident as they may hold vital information as to what happened.

“In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this investigation is asked to contact police immediately.”
