THE owners of the land at the former Diosynth plant in Buckhaven are preparing to appeal a Fife Council decision to block development plans.

It had been hoped by the owners that the site could be developed to create residential properties, a care home and sheltered housing complex.

However, members of the Fife Council planning committee decided recently that the site needs to be protected for local employment purposes.

They also raised concerns about the imapct on road safety and residential amenity.

Applicant Deborah Muir told the Mail: “We are going to appeal this decision.

“We were requested by Fife Council years ago to bring the site up to residential standards for ground investigation and remediation for any application to be considered, we subsequently did.”
