Diamond Jubilee celebrated in style
Youngsters enjoy the Holy Trinity street party.
Holy Trinity Parish Church hosted a lively street party in St Andrews to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on Sunday.
Organisers were delighted with the turnout which almost reached the limit of 300 who were allowed to join in the fun.
The church held a special Diamond Jubilee service at 11 am led by the Rev Rory MacLeod, who was joined for the occasion by guest preacher the Rev Norman Drummond, the Queen’s Chaplain in Scotland.
After the service the street party got underway with plenty of entertainment lined up to entertain a cross section of the local community on the church grounds and Church Square.
There was live music from a mini version of the City of St Andrews Pipe Band as well as a performance from the Headwind Jazz Band, and Mr MacLeod got in on the act when he played the bagpipes.
Guest of honour was Mrs Margaret Dean, the Lord Lieutenant of Fife, who unveiled the newly-created Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee rose bed in the church garden.
She also cut a special three-tier jubilee celebration cake after being joined by the church’s youngest member, nine-month-old Leonard Randall, of Sandyhill Crescent, St Andrews, who was recently baptised.
Afterwards, George Donaldson, chairman of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Group, thanked everyone who made the event such a success including the many local shops, companies and organisations who supported them.
