A GLENROTHES couple will spend today celebrating a landmark anniversary.

William and Josephine Munro were married 60 years ago today and have spent the last 59 years living in the town.

William is from Thornton originally and Josephine from Rosyth before they met in Markinch.

Josephine said: “I was working as a photographer and William was working on the railway when we met.

“We were married on August 1 1952 at the Municipal Buildings in Markinch.”

The couple moved to Glenrothes in May 1953 to Russell Drive before moving to their current home in Warout Road.

William was a train driver for British Rail his whole working life after serving time in Kenya during the war with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.

The couple had three children and now have seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren in the family.

Josephine says that she is looking forward to the diamond wedding party on Friday night at Warout Stadium. “I’m really looking forward to it,” she said. “We have a band playing and Grace Black is going to sing. It should be a great night.

William and Josephine have also generously asked that people don’t give them presents but instead make a donation to Maggie’s Cancer Care.

Josephine said: “It’s a rock n’ roll band that’s playing at the party so the place should be jumping!”
