Door likely to close on tenants’ group
Joe Cochrane
LACK of interest looks to be signalling the end of a Kennoway tenants’ group.
Committee members on KATRA – Kennoway Area Tenants and Residents’ Association – are preparing to hold an extraordinary general meeting to dissolve the body.
Local man Joe Cochrane has resigned as secretary, just eight months after taking over the post.
He said he had tried during that time to re-establish the group but public apathy and lack of co-operation from other bodies had forced his decision to quit.
“It was pitiful – we didn’t even have a quorum at meetings, even after some good promotional stories in the East Fife Mail and blanketing the town with flyers,” he said.
Mr Cochrane praised Levenmouth councillors David Alexander and Charles Haffey, for coming along on a few occasions to support KATRA.
But he added: “I think community groups, and especially community councils that have not been voted in by their communities, are just kidding themselves on if they think their communities have a serious need for them.”
