GLENROTHES’ main shopping mall has won two prestigious retail awards.

The Kingdom Centre scored the double success in the British Council of Shopping Centres Achieving Customer Excellence and Green Apple awards.

The centre was judged the best of British in the former in the category for malls between 40,000-80,000 square metres.

It was twice ‘mystery shopped’ by judges, who looked at its performance on customer service, social media, WIFI provision plus sustainability.

It was runner-up last year, but took the first prize this time around, just as it had done two years ago.

“I am exceptionally proud of the whole team, as winning this award is an exceptional achievement and testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire staff” commented manager Robert Winter.

The centre has also collected a Silver Green Apple prize in the Green Organisation’s first Scottish award ceremony for its innovative concept of linking a newly purchased electric pick-up truck, named ‘Sparky’, with 2012 Recycle Week activities.

Sparky is an Epower Truck Alke ATX, which was purchased to replace the original diesel pick up truck.

It is one of the few electric vehicles in Fife, paving the way for the future, and is used for all tasks the previous diesel truck was used for in maintaining the centre, towing, carrying and even transporting local celebrities the Hippos.

Also as part of the week, the centre ran a children’s competition which allowed three lucky winners the chance to spend £50 for creating the most inventive toy car from recycled materials.

The centre are previous winners of International Green Apple Awards in 2010 and 2011.

The centre currently has over 100 tenants and Mr Winter added: “In today’s competitive market, customers demand a high standard of customer service.

“The centre offers an excellent shopping experience, full of community spirit and fantastic staff who create a friendly, welcoming and positive environment on a daily basis.”

It is currently running its Star Awards scheme.
