Cupar Sheriff Court.

AN award-winning restaurateur caught driving while almost double the limit has been fined £535 and banned from the road for a year.

Adrian Pieraccini, who is credited with turning around the fortunes of St Andrews’ Rusacks Hotel, appeared before Sheriff Charles Macnair in Cupar.

He admitted driving in Station Road, St Andrews, on May 18 this year with an alcohol reading of 62mcg, when the legal limit is 35 mcg. The car, which the court heard was a black Mercedes, carried the number plate R8CCA.

The court heard that Pieraccini (52), of 29 Beechgrove Rise, Cupar, owns two restaurants in Inverness and runs the Rocca Bar & Grill at the Rusacks Hotel, where turnover had increased three-fold in the space of a year.

The businessman earns between £80,000 and £100,000 a year and his 17-year-old son is a pupil at St Leonards,

Passing sentence, Sheriff Charles Macnair rejected a request by Pieraccini’s solicitor to consider him for the drink driver rehabilitation course.

He told the accused: “This was a very high reading - close on double the legal limit.

“You are someone who has held a responsible job within the licensing trade for 30 years and has held a liquor licence for 28 years.

“You must have known perfectly well that you had no business driving a vehicle on that day.”
