Drivers causing traffic hazard near Diageo
RESIDENTS in Leven are urging a curb on irresponsible parking near the site of the town’s biggest employer.
Householders in the Rosemount and Castlefleurie estates are urging drivers stopping to picking up friends and relatives, who work at Diageo, not to block the access in and out of the streets.
Residents around Turpie Road say cars are packing the route near the Windygates Road roundabout when they come to collect people at the end of their shift.
Residents, many of whom have commented on the Mail’s Facebook page, say the number of vehicles is reducing visibility and choking up the road in and out of the estate, creating a potential hazard for other traffic.
Some householders have called for random traffic wardens or police patrols to tackle the problem, adding it was often at its worst around 4.45pm when the day shift was finishing.
They also suggested that drivers entering the estate could easily cut the congestion by parking on ground to the left of Turpie Road.
The matter has been raised with Diageo bosses and Fife Council’s transportation officials, while Levenmouth’s top police officer suggested anyone wanting to highlight it further could attend Leven’s community engagement meeting tonight (Wednesday) at 7pm in Adam Smith College’s Victoria Road campus.
Chief Inspector Graeme Kinmond added: “All drivers should adhere to the Highway Code and not park close to junctions/roundabouts, as this could be considered as obstructing the roadway.“
A Diageo spokesman added: “We can confirm we have raised with our employees the parking issues on Turpie Road, opposite our Leven packaging site.
“Employees have been asked to encourage friends and relatives, who are collecting them by car, to find alternative arrangements.
“There has been a marked improvement and our site security staff will continue to monitor the situation.”
