Eleanor’s BBC slam honour

A LEVEN woman has been invited to be one of the judges on a BBC poetry competition.
Eleanor Livingstone, who is the director of StAnza: Scotland’s International Poetry Festival, is to be on the panel at BBC Slam during this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
In its second year, Slam will take place over five nights at the BBC’s Potterrow venue, from August 20, where 24 top poets will recite, using their own style, live on stage in front of an audience.
Similar to rap battles, the performers compete against each other and the audience – which will also get the chance to see two poets fresh from StAnza’s inaugural Digital Slam, Elspeth Murray and J. L. Williams – is encouraged to show its support.
Eleanor, whose poetry publications include ‘The Last King of Fife’ and ‘A Sampler’, said: “I was thrilled to be invited to be a judge on this year’s BBC slam.
“Our own slams are always great fun and a brilliant way for me to discover new exciting talent, so I’m really looking forward to the line-up in Edinburgh.”
Joining Eleanor on the judging panel to help pick a winner will be Hannah McGill, Kevin Cadwallender and Emma Turnbull.
Slam takes the format of four heats from Monday to Thursday at 5pm with the grand finale at 7.30pm on Friday, August 24.
Hosted by Young Dawkins, a former Scottish Slam Champion, the line up consists of Scotland’s Makar, Liz Lochhead in her first ever slam; Jenny Lindsay; Tim Turnbull and Ross Sutherland.
