Elie Scarecrow Festival began this (Friday) morning.

And it promses to be the best yet with a record-breaking 60 entries scattered through the town and Earlsferry.

The organisers say some topical themes have emerged for the weekend’s event.

Going for Gold and Let the Games Begin certainly suggest images for this year’s Commonwealth Games.

The festival also has two referendum entries, with the Floating Voter offering a ‘Straw Poll’.

But in keeping with previous years’ efforts, visitors can expoect to see many other weird and wonderful creations.

Although very much an Elie event, Markinch Primary School pupils have entered a scarecrow for Kingdom FM which will be broadcasting from the Sports Pavilion tomorrow ( Saturday).

The prizewinners for the best scarecrows will be announced at 2pm on Monday at the Toll Green.
