Family to get the red carpet treatment
FILM: Gordon Brown MP and Jim Leishman surrounded by actors - on the set of 'The Happy Lands' on location
A FAMILY from Leslie will be getting the red carpet treatment when they attend a glittering film premier in June reports, NEIL HENDERSON.
George and Helen Thompson along with daughter, Emily all volunteered to help out on The Happy Lands feature film when it was on location in Fife last year and because of their involvement have now been invited to the premier screening and film launch at the Alhambra Theatre.
The film tells the story of the 1926 coal miners strike and is set in the village of Carhill Scotland, in the heart of the Fife coal fields.
The story follows the journey of a mining community as they are pushed inevitably towards a conflict with the Kingdom Coal Company in a seven month long lock out and is the brainchild of Theatre Workshop Scotland (Fife) Limited.
Mum Helen and daughter Emily answered the film company’s call for local volunteers, initially because of Emily’s keen interest in vintage clothing and ended up helping on the set with the period dress.
Having already studied fashion at Galashiels and recently graduated, Emily also attained a costume traineeship on the film.
Meanwhile, it was while George was helping with set design that he was asked to participate in two of the filmed scenes.
“I got the chance of a lifetime to actually feature in the movie, that was certainly something I didn’t expect, I suppose that makes me a real film star” laughed George.
He added: “I didn’t realise everything took so long, one of the scenes must have taken 15 takes to get right, but it was an enjoyable experience.”
The film’s premier takes place at the Alhambra Theatre, Dunfermline on June 8.
