A Jon Bon Jovi tribute, comedy extravaganza and jazz night are just some the acts which are set to entertain revellers at next month’s Aberdour Festival.

The annual event, now in its 31st year, kicks off on Friday, August 1 at the marquee on Hawkcraig Road. It runs from August 1-10.

It will launch on the Friday evening with the Great Grand Homecoming Hootenanny, where local duo, the Coaltown Daisies, will lead the musical festivities supported by young band, Second Stages, and local guests.

The parade will kick off after the crowning of this year’s king, Owen Braid, and queen, Catriona Nicholson, along with their attendants Jenny Morrison and Robert Pearson, in the festival marquee at 10.30 a.m. on Saturday, August 2.

The parade has a ‘bridge the gap’ theme this year to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War, 50th anniversary of the Forth Road Bridge and to celebrate the diversity of the Commonwealth.

It will make its way from the marquee at 11.00 a.m through the village before heading back to the marquee for the village sports and gala day.

This year’s festival will also include the raft race, Donkey Brae Run, the fun-packed children’s programme, the beach day and sandcastle competition.

Other fantastic activities and shows include: a comedy extravaganza on August 3 with comedian Gary Delaney and guests, in association with Mirth of Forth Comedy; a Festival jazz night with the Cooper Cats supported by Marty Waugh and his band in association with Fife Jazz Club on August 4 and the Bon Jovi Experience plus guests on August 8.

Other features include various exhibitions, the village market and fun day on August 3 at the marquee and tented village on the Silver Sands playing fields in Aberdour from 11.00 a.m until 4.00 p.m.

The annual Aberdour Festival bake off is on August 6 at the festival marquee from noon until 3.00 p.m.

The bake off will feature special guest judges John Whaite, a previous British Bake Off winner, and Aberdour’s award-winning baker, Mrs Lonie.

Roy Devon, chairman, said: “We want people to check out our amazing, fun-packed programme on our website at www.aberdourfestival.org.uk.

‘‘We shall be updating festival-goers on our programme which has something for all ages.” Tickets are available from Aberdour Pharmacy, McTaggart’s and the Purple Shop in Aberdour.
