Fife pupils are top of the class

TUESDAY was D-day for thousands of teenagers across Fife as they waited for news of their exam results through the post, or by both text and e-mail.
Analysis of the region’s results is continuing, but early indications suggest pupils in Fife have had another outstanding year with their SQA results.
Higher exam results in Fife have improved on last year’s high performance and the region’s Advanced Higher pass rate has also risen by 1.4 per cent
Craig Munro, head of education in the Kingdom, said: “We are delighted with the outstanding performance by pupils in Fife.
“Although it is early days, there are clear signs that this is the strongest performance at every level for Fife pupils for a generation.
“Last year’s results were the best ever but we have beaten even those results in every category.
“In particular, special praise must go to the 282 pupils who achieved straight As in their Higher exams.
“That’s the highest it has ever been, and to the 125 candidates who achieved straight 1s at Standard Grade.
Testimony
“These results are testimony to the hard work of our young people, the dedicated support of our teachers and other staff, the leadership of our schools, the rigorous nature of our quality improvement systems and, of course, most importantly, the support of families.
“As yet it’s too early for us to have received the data from the Scottish Government which lets us compare the results with national figures.
“In addition, we expect the results to improve further once appeals have been considered.”
Councillor Bryan Poole, Executive spokesman for education, children, young people and families, added: “These kinds of results can only be achieved by the hard work of the young people themselves over a number of years.
“I hope the results this year inspire the pupils who will be following over the next few years.
“I would also want to put on record my thanks to all the people who have supported and encouraged Fife’s pupils in achieving these results.
“Young people are all of our futures and this year’s results should fill all Fifers with pride in our young people. A great big well done to all.”
