FORMER R&A doorman Bob Marshall is still celebrating after scooping a share of a £1 million lottery jackpot.

The 72-year-old retired RAF serviceman was presented with a cheque for a whopping £333,333 after his postcode - KY15 5EL - emerged as the winner in the People’s Postcode Lottery Summer Millions at a glittering event held in Cupar’s Corn Exchange on Saturday.

He shared the £1 million prize with Margaret Nelson (68) and Kathleen Todd (77), his neighbours in Blalowan Gardens, Cupar,

A keen golfer and bowler, Bob worked for the R&A for 11 years after retiring from a 37-year career in the RAF.

A dad of two sons, he told the Citizen that he intended to spoil his three granddaughters in Edinburgh, aged 13, 11 and four-and-a-half, and his two-and-half year-old grandson, who lives in Elgin.

He also reckoned he’d probably replace his 11-year-old Honda Civic - but was quick to point out that there wasn’t actually anything wrong with it!

“I’ve only been doing the People’s Postcode Lottery for about a year-and-half so to have a win of this size is a double shock,” he said.

“I think it will be a long time before it actually sinks in!”

In total, 176 people in the KY15 5 postcode area came away from Saturday’s showbiz-style event with cheques for sums ranging from £650 to £14,070. Amongst the big winners was Margaret Burnett (64) of Greenside of Blebo, whose KY15 5UD postcode won her £17,420 and a brand new BMW.

Some 500 people - including the winners and their guests - packed into the Corn Exchange for the party and, as well as being entertained by X-Factor finalist Danyl Johnson, had the chance to meet representatives from a number of the local charities supported by the People’s Postcode Lottery. To date, good causes have benefited to the tune of £19.1 million.
