The Tannadice club will be playing their Tayside neighbours St Johnstone in the cup final at Celtic Park on Saturday, May 17.

But many United fans looked as though they might have been priced out of their club’s big day after discovering the tickets were too expensive.

That prompted Dundee-based charity United for All to start a drive to raise money for underprivileged fans who couldn’t afford to buy tickets.

Their efforts have been so successful, they are now able to help many more fans than originally anticipated.

The target was £2000, but the campaign raised over £25,000 – including a £5000 donation from Dundee United, so there are plenty of funds to accommodate football fans from Fife who would like to attend on May 17.

However, anyone wishing to apply will need to be quick as ticket requests need to be submitted by tomorrow (Friday).

Christopher Bennison, from the north east Fife Dundee United supporters’ club Ceres Arabs, and a member of United for All, said; “Last week’s drive to raise funds exceeded everybody’s expectations and the generosity of not only Arabs the world over but fans of clubs up and down Britain has shown how powerful social media can be.

“We can’t wait for May 17 and it’s heartening to know that we’ll be cheering on United alongside a sizable number of fans who would otherwise have not been able to go.

“Football should be for everybody, especially when it comes to a showpiece occasion like a national cup final. Fife has always been a major Dundee United stronghold, and Ceres Arabs are delighted to support such a worthy cause.”

Christopher added that the funding for tickets are not necessarily for just Dundee United supporters, and that it’s more an opportunity for people to attend a cup final when they may not have otherwise have had the chance to do so.

Ticket requests should be made to the charity by via email at secretary@unitedforall.co.uk, or call 07766 504758
