A BIG-HEARTED mum has told of how moved she was by the story of Kianna Martin, the little Kirkcaldy girl who cannot smile.

Kelly Graham (26) read about the plight of two-year-old Kianna in the Fife Herald and St Andrews Citizen’s sister paper, the Fife Free Press.

Mum-of-three Kelly, who grew up in Ceres but now lives in Kirkcaldy, has taken it upon herself to organise a day and night of fund-raising to help little Kianna.

The tot suffers from an undiagnosed condition that means she cannot smile or swallow, and mum Ciya Rutherford (20) is trying to raise money to send her daughter to a specialist facility in Somerset.

ECSTATIC

Kelly said: “My elder son Cody has a disability, so when I read about Kianna and her mum in the paper I felt it was something really close to my heart.”

Cody (7) has serious chronic asthma and is regularly in and out of hospital.

Kelly — who has two other children, five-year-old Conner and baby Ava — was full of sympathy for Ciya and hopes her fund-raiser can help Kianna enjoy a better quality of life.

She said: “Ciya was ecstatic when I told her I wanted to do something for Kianna.

“She said it would mean a lot to her and her family.”

The event will take place in the Society Bar in Kirkcaldy on Sunday, April 15, from 1pm till 2am.

The afternoon will be geared towards children, with an Easter egg hunt and facepainting among the attractions.

There will also be activities for adults, including psychic readings and the painful prospect of body waxing for men.

A host of bands will perform live in the evening, while there will be a raffle with prizes including a meal cooked by Ceres chef John Graham.

Tickets cost £2 on the door and there will be the opportunity to make further donations for individual activities inside the venue.
