Fundraiser for a little miracle boy who beat the odds

GLENROTHES youngster Calib Forsyth is a little miracle.
The two-and-a-half year old tot was not expected to survive but he is now continuing to make progress against all the odds.
Calib has Dandy Walker Syndrome, a rare congenital brain malfunction.
He was born with the cerebellum in the back of his brain missing - the part of the brain which controls all his motor skills and movement.
His mum Sarah explained: “When I was 22 weeks in, I was advised to terminate the pregnancy,
“I was told my baby would not function in the outside world and if he did survive, he would not be able to do anything for himself. But there was no way I could give up on him - I wanted to give him a chance. At 18 weeks I was told the pregnancy would end at any time.”
But despite the diagnosis, the mum-of-four ended up giving birth by emergency c-section, with her sister Hayley King by her side: “When he arrived he was moving and crying and wanted a feed - the medical staff were all shocked,” Sarah said.
“I had been preparing for him not to survive and had grieved for this baby, so I was in complete disbelief.”
After four months Sarah said hydrocephalus - the build up of fluid inside the skull that leads to brain swelling - became a problem and Calib had to attend the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh to have a number of operations to drain the fluid.
One of Sarah’s other children, Hayley (4) also has difficulties and has been diagnosed with delayed development and autistic traits. At the moment Sarah can’t let Hayley and Calib out to play in the back garden because it isn’t suitable for wheelchair access and isn’t safe - it needs gates installed. So to help pay for the adaptions needed, a special family fun day, organised by Carol Buchan, is being held this Sunday from 11.00 a.m - 3.00 p.m. at Ladyzonly Gym, Unit 12, Woodgate Way South, in Eastfield Industrial Estate. Some of the funding raised is also going to another Glenrothes youngster Kayla Bird who has Cerebral Palsy. Activities will include a bouncy castle, facepainting, tombola and stalls.
