Fife film fans are about to be given the taste of vintage America – with the Kingdom’s first ever drive-in movie event.

Organisers have already been inundated with requests for tickets for the charity event, just days after announcing it on social media site facebook.

All profits will be donated to the CH@S Charity.

Adam Smith students Jai McVey, Ruth Partridge, Lauren Wilson, Rachel Walker and Craig Anderson are hosting the unique movie experience, which takes place at Fife Airport in Glenrothes on Saturday, March 15, as part of their HND events management course work, and are expecting a sell-out.

The students have already received the backing from Fife Council and police to go ahead with the event and will have a number of stewards in place to make sure the night runs without a hitch.

“The amount of enquiries we’ve been getting is insane,” Jai told the Gazette.

“The event will appeal to all ages because we have a family film showing from 7.00 p.m. and a second movie, which will be a horror film for adults, starting at 9.30 p.m.

“There’ll also be all the usual cinema style catering, hot dogs, popcorn and refreshments available to make it a special experience.”

Each showing will allow up to 100 cars access to the site, with the sound relayed into each car through a series of digital speakers that simply plug into the cigarette lighter socket.

The idea came when a friend went to see a classic horror film at an outdoor screening in Glasgow last year.

“She came back really enthused by the whole idea of going to see a film in that kind of setting and that’s how the drive-in idea came about, especially as there’s nothing really like that happening in Fife,” explained Jai (27).

If the drive-in proves a success, the organisers hope to make it a regular event, with the possibility of doubling the amount of cars to 200.

“If it works out, we’d like to host a drive-in every couple of months. We certainly think it has potential to become a regular outing in Glenrothes,” said Jai.

Details for the Fife Drive in can be found by going to their dedicated facebook page - Drive In Movie - First ever in Fife!! The films will be announced this week.
