Glenrothes MP seeks assurances over medicines availability

Lindsay Roy MP

Lindsay Roy MP

Glenrothes and Central Fife MP Lindsay Roy has urged the UK and Scottish governments to take determined action to ensure patients can access the medicines they are prescribed when they need them.

Recent surveys of pharmacists have highlighted the difficulties they often face in getting some 50 medicines which are regularly prescribed to NHS patients to treat problems such as cancer, high blood pressure, asthma, schizophrenia, diabetes and depression.

The MP said: “I have strong evidence from a pharmacist in my own constituency about how serious the problem is and have asked all others to let me know about their experiences.

“Something must be done urgently to fix this worrying problem and I have written to the Secretary of State for Health Andrew Lansley and Scottish Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon expressing my serious concern and urging them to take what action is necessary.”
