A Glenrothes man is in the running for a dream trip on a gold rush adventure in the mountains of Alaska.
Stuart James Wedge entered a national competition, organised by the Discovery Channel to mark its 25th anniversary in the UK, inviting viewers to tell their story themed around the channel’s ‘Make Your World Bigger’ new brand positioning.
And his entry has made it through to the final shortlist of 25.
Thousands of people across the country entered the competition for a chance to win a trip-of-a-lifetime.
The public are now being invited to vote for their favourite three entries to find a winner.
Stuart submitted his picture along with his explanation as to how he made his world bigger.
His submission read: “I made my world bigger by going to war for my country and actually putting a smile on the face of some local children in Basra, Iraq. A very proud moment.”
The father-of-two explained: “During the war in 2003, I was driving from Al Armara to Basra when our vehicle was swarmed by local kids.
“The children were very friendly and I gave them some biscuits and water.
“I had a little teddy bear that was given to me as a good luck charm so I gave it to one of the kids in my picture.
“You should have seen the smile on his face - it was one of the proudest moments of my service.”
Voting in the Discovery Channel competition closes on Sunday, July 6. To view the entries and to vote visit www.mywbcompetition.com
